Christina Owens, CPM, LM
I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) having completed the Commonwealth of Virginia requirements for professional practice as a Licensed Midwife (LM) in 2013.
I attended the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in Gainesville, Florida, in the late 90's. I also completed an apprenticeship at the Birth Center of Gainesville and worked with homebirth midwives in FL and VA. Neonatal Resuscitation and CPR are part of my credentials as per requirements as a CPM and LM.
My experience includes many years of attending births in the home and birth center setting with a great deal of waterbirth experience. I have also spent ten years working as a nurse in a family centered maternity office with several midwives and doctors. I am especially interested in preserving vaginal breech birth as an option as well as vaginal birth after a cesarean.
It is my belief that pregnancy and birth are normal physiologic changes in a person's life span that are unique to each of us as well as their desires and wishes for that life changing event. I feel it is your choice as to how and where you will give birth as well as who will attend you. How your baby is treated during this transition is equally important.
I am the mother of 4 beautiful, grown women and a grandmother (or Mema) to many grandbabies, some of whom are teenagers already!
June Byrd, Birth Assistant
I am a retired Licensed Midwife from Florida who joined the EVa Homebirth team in 2019. I spent 11 years in private practice in Florida and in the Birth Center arena for several years. Previously, I was a Licensed Practical Nurse from the 1980's until midwifery school. Some of the places I have worked are L & D, Home Health, Family Practice, Pediatrics and Gynecology, just to name a few. Having graduated from the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in the late 90's, I have attended hundreds of births in the Community setting. I am a current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider and CPR certified.
I am the mother of grown children, grandmother to grown grandchildren, and great-grandmother to many!
Midwifery Students:
Kimberly Lane, RN - Phase 3 student
I have always loved birth. I can still remember as a young child, renting medical textbooks from the library and reading them late into the night with a flashlight in hand. After graduating high school, this passion led me to nursing school. I graduated in 2017 and passed the NCLEX two months later to become a Registered Nurse. After those years spent in clinical rotations and studying traditional American medicine, I realized that while I had learned so much, it wasn't a path that I wanted to pursue any further. I felt continually more drawn to individualized care that was based in communities and a model of care where the client led the experience and their opinions mattered and were honored. This brought me to midwifery and, specifically, the path of becoming a certified professional midwife. I officially began my midwifery training in August of 2022 and it has been one of my greatest joys ever since.
When I am not doing birth work, I enjoy mothering and homeschooling my three little ones (and one on the way!), restoring our 1920 farmhouse, growing our homestead, going on long walks with my husband, teaching classical ballet to my dance students, and continually implementing ways to add slowness, stillness, and simplicity back into our days.
Chan Dawson - Phase 3 student
I have always been fascinated with birth since I was a child. At the age of 4, my aunt was pregnant and I remember never leaving her side because the idea of a baby growing in her belly blew my mind. That is where the interest began and the only way I could have been a part of that world is becoming an Obstetrician…so I thought. Little did I know, there was another way, the way it all began but got lost over time.
I don’t remember how I found doula work but I believe it was a sign… because from my work as a doula(which I enjoyed tremendously) I met Midwives and realized that this is where I am supposed to be. Midwifery is a calling from a Higher Power and I am answering the call. Being able to provide women with individualized care and being in their space as they bring life into this world is a very powerful experience that never gets old to me. Witnessing the strength of a woman in her most vulnerable moments is incredible and I witness it over and over again. I began my Midwifery journey in March 2022 and it has been a spectacular ride.
I am a mother of 2 kids who hold both sides of my heart. In my spare time, I enjoy crocheting, knitting, reading and spending time with family.

Erica Glass - Phase 2 student
I was initiated into the world of natural birth when I witnessed my mother utilizing the Leboyer method in the 90s. A seed was planted. With the birth of my first child, I became a witness to the nonchalant manner of obstetricians intervening into a normal physiological process. I went on to have three of my own homebirths, became a doula and childbirth educator in 2006, founded Birth Rite Louisiana in 2007 and attended midwifery school in 2013. I was in love with birth and clearly saw midwife guided community birth as the gold standard of care. I passionately sat at the feet of Louisiana’s elder midwives for a decade awaiting the season of life that holds my clinical experience. In the spring of 2025, I created a midwifery cohort and joined the Eva Homebirth team.
I hold current certifications in Neonatal Resuscitation and CPR.
When I’m away from clinic and labor isn’t calling, I can be found homeschooling, tending my herb garden or beach gazing.
Annaiah Walker - Phase 2 Student
I’ve been interested in birth since I was five. When my little sister was born the midwife noticed my interest and showed me around the birth suite. I clearly remember looking up at her and thinking what an awesome job she had. Although it took a few more years to formulate into a personal passion, that was the day the seed was planted in my heart.
In the couple of decades since then I have only grown in my awe and passion of women centered birth. I am honored to be a witness to each mother’s sacred journey that brings her precious baby earth side.
I obtained my birth doula certification a few years ago, and while I love supporting mothers in that role, the experiences I had grew my desire to support women as a midwife. I began taking steps towards that and in June of 2025 I became a student midwife with EVa Homebirth. It’s been such a joyful learning experience and I feel like I am exactly where I should be.
Outside of being a student, I am an avid lover of swimming, snow, spending time with my extended family, and reading a good book.
